The Ombudsman meets with the Police Services Union: Security workers without drinking water and without pay for overtime

The Ombudsman, Endrit Shabani, received representatives of the Police Services Union of Albania, which represents police officers, prison guards and other public security services in the country.

The union representatives raised specific concerns about working conditions: long shifts without drinking water and without transportation, non-payment of overtime, low salaries and lack of food compensation. They requested the institution’s intervention so that these problems are addressed as a priority and their voice is heard where decisions are made.

The Ombudsman, Endrit Shabani, committed to including a section on the rights of prison workers in the next annual report.

“The state asks these workers to risk their lives for public safety, but does not even guarantee them food and drinking water during their service. The dignity of those who guarantee safety is not a privilege, but a legal obligation,” said Shabani.

The Ombudsman will address the responsible authorities with relevant recommendations on the issues raised.
