The Ombudsman of Albania, Mr. Endrit Shabani, also President of the Organization of Mediterranean Lawyers (AOM), is paying an official visit to the Republic of Kosovo, where he was received in a high-level meeting by the Speaker of the Assembly and Acting President, Ms. Albulena Haxhiu.

The discussions focused on the protection of fundamental freedoms and the guarantee of the rights of Albanians in the region. Mr. Shabani stressed the necessity of a joint and proactive approach to respond to the current human rights challenges in both countries.

During the meeting, in his capacity as President of the AOM, Mr. Shabani requested institutional support from the Assembly of Kosovo for the strengthening of the institution of the Ombudsman of Kosovo. He underlined that an independent and strong human rights protection mechanism is essential for guaranteeing the rule of law and functional democracy.

The visit of Mr. Shabani deepens the strategic inter-institutional cooperation between Tirana and Pristina. His agenda in Pristina continues with important bilateral meetings with the People's Advocate of Kosovo, Mr. Naim Qelaj, and the President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Nexhmi Rexhepi.
