The Ombudsman Institution held an "Open Day" event today at the Kukës Municipality. Our Commissioner, Besnik Deda, and the Deputy Mayor, Abdulla Domi, listened directly to residents, civil society representatives, and local and central authorities, offering guidance and legal advice.
The main issues raised by the community included:
- Property issues and documentation for families affected by flooding from the lake
- Protracted court proceedings that delay justice for citizens
- Lack of public consultation and transparency regarding the construction of a landfill
- Disqualification criteria for economic aid and social support
- Difficulties faced by persons with permanent disabilities in appearing in person before the central commission in Tirana
- Lack of sewage networks in rural areas
- The negative impact of hydroelectric power plants on the availability of irrigation and drinking water
- Lack of transportation for schoolchildren in remote and isolated areas
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ombudsman's staff recorded specific citizen complaints to initiate immediate administrative investigations.
Our experts also provided legal advice to those interested. The Ombudsman stands by every citizen to protect their rights.
The next meeting will take place next Tuesday at the Lezhë Municipality. See you on October 20 at 11:00 AM at the Palace of Culture!
