The 118th Plenary Session of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) was held in Venice on 15-16 March 2019.

During the session, the Venice Commission also adopted the thematic text on "Principles on Protection and Promotion of the People's Advocate Institution ("Principles of Venice")".

This document highlights the important role of the People's Advocate Institution, which functions in over 140 countries in strengthening democracy, the rule of law and promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms.
