Close To Women Deprived Of Their Liberty: Information And Awareness About Their Rights
In the framework of March 8, International Women's Day, the regional office of the People's Advocate in Pogradec held a visit to the premises of the Penitentiary Institution Pojska. This meeting served as a space for conversation and information for women serving sentences in this institution.
Together with representatives of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination and the Office for Free Legal Aid, we focused on the key points that guarantee their dignity:
- The right to information: Increasing knowledge about fundamental freedoms while serving sentences.
- Protection from discrimination: Introducing institutional mechanisms where any violation can be addressed.
- Free Legal Aid: Practical instructions on how to benefit from this service at no financial cost.
- Addressing complaints: How to officially communicate with institutions about their requests.
During the meeting, women shared their concerns, appreciating the importance of institutional support and access to legal information.
Human dignity is not suspended with the deprivation of liberty.
The Ombudsman remains committed to ensuring that every citizen, regardless of circumstances, is treated with professionalism, impartiality and respect for human rights.
