Property Abuses And Pollution In Patos-Marinzë: Fier Residents Lodge Complaints With The Ombudsman

Property abuses and pollution in Patos-Marinzë: Fier residents lodge complaints with the Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman held an "open day" in Fier, where it listened to the concerns and issues raised by citizens.

In the presence of representatives from local institutions, residents brought complaints to the Ombudsman regarding property matters—ranging from overlapping land titles to the allocation of land for use by private entities.

Another issue raised during the event concerned environmental pollution in the Patos-Marinzë area.

Residents called for institutional intervention, arguing that environmental contamination caused by toxic substances from the company is inflicting severe, life-threatening health damage upon them.

The discussion also touched upon recent protests, which were described as a means of expressing grievances and demanding solutions to problems affecting the community.

In this context, our commissioners highlighted the Ombudsman’s role in monitoring the observance of fundamental rights and freedoms, ensuring the right to peaceful assembly, and reviewing complaints that may arise during the course of such protests.

Ultimately, the Ombudsman’s team provided legal counsel to interested citizens and processed formal complaints against state institutions. The next meeting will be in Dibër, next Tuesday, November 3rd, at 11:00 AM, at the Palace of Culture.
