"Children Speak - Institutions Listen" - Tirana Students In The Role Of "People's Advocate For A Day"
The Ombudsman welcomed students from the “Sami Frashëri” school today as part of the June 1st initiative “Children Speak – Institutions Listen”.
The children, representatives of the student government of this high school or members of the debate clubs, had the opportunity to improvise the role of “People’s Advocate for a Day”.
During the conversation with the Ombudsman, Endrit Shabani and the Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Alma Faskaj, the students raised concerns about their spaces at school or in the community.
Addressing phenomena such as bullying, online harassment, disinformation, school safety, the few social programs in educational structures, the lack of green spaces in residential neighborhoods, were just some of the issues raised by them, in search of a safe and developing environment.
Symbolically seated in the Ombudsman's chair, the children who visited the institution, with clear ideas and expressive power, gave encouraging messages of inclusion and paid attention to values and diversity, which are being put at risk by technological pressure.
Mr. Endrit Shabani encouraged students to use the Ombudsman's institution as a door where they can bring their concerns, those of friends or family, guaranteeing them maximum attention in the protection of their rights.
The Ombudsman exchanged information and opinions with the children on the phenomenon of online bullying and the problems they encounter on a daily basis at school.
Finally, the visitors wrote recommendations for the Ombudsman's institution, which were received from the Children's Section, as a guide to orient themselves in the institutional activity.
